There's something particularly galling about the hypocrisy of a phallocentric and un- photogenic industry like the international club scene turning any dialogue about female DJs into a 'you would or you wouldn't' conversation. So the British Dance Fraternity voted DJ Shugga the 2nd Sexiest Person in Breaks in a 2001 Skoolfish Productions survey. For one thing, who cares? The DJ's meant to be an ethereal presence, not a pin up. For another, I bet she's really, really, really glad that a group of mashed fuckwits thinks she's pretty.
An ex-dancer who's been bothering the US breaks scene since 1997, Shugga was responsible for the cunningly titled Shugga Sugar on the slightly less cunningly titled label Funk Dawg Records. She also provided the vocals for 2002's Bitch Slap, a complex deconstruction of modern feminism. Sounds to me as if there are some (Hatters) over in Asia!
DELICIOUS GROOVE A JUDGE FOR (GUITAR CENTER'S) ANNUAL "SPIN OFF 2004"

Guitar Center is hosting its annual SPIN OFF for 2004. Delicious Groove asked to be a judge and also to fill the sign up bags.. Preliminary dates are MAY 11, 18, 25 and district finals are June 1st. The competition finals will be held in Chicago and are TBA. The event will be sponsored by NUMARK, ODDYSSEY, XXL, SCRATCH MAG, NIKE, MILANOLITE, WARNER MUSIC and TOYOTA.The final winner wins a Warner Record deal and a 2005 Toyota Scion.The other prizes range from needles to turntables to magazine subscriptions. She will be judging 3 preliminary dates and 1 district finals.
Jesse Saunders' continuing monthly series of House Music Legends appears again at Club 6 in San Francisco (60 6th St.) on Friday, April 16th. This one celebrates art and the 20th anniversary of House Music TOUR! Art show begins at 9pm.

SHUGGA to be featurd in two-part film out this summer!

Kelly just finished shooting a two-part movie in Orange County California!! She was the only DJ to be featured in OC CORE and 4:20 BUD AND BONG. OC CORE will feature music videos from many of OC's best underground bands like lifeline, Core 10, and Sour-Puk who's music will be used for 4:20 BUD and BONG. Besides being filmed in the bands videos, Kelly also has a music video of her own. This two-part move will be distributed on DVD by the summer of 2004. She also went on three call backs for a new show, and is waiting to hear back them! Keep your fingers crossed!
